Many people are surprised that I have been sewing for nearly 45 years. But, I first started sewing before I went to school! I learned to sew on my Grandma’s Singer treadle machine with my Granddad moving the pedal, then, when I could reach the floor I started using my mum’s machine and I was very lucky to get my own machine on my 13th birthday. I was then able to make my dresses for the school dance and even my skirts for my school uniform.
Sewing is my passion and I will sew anything, from home furnishings, clothing, accessories and patchwork quilts. I love making vintage costumes where no pattern is available and to get the perfect look of a Victorian costume I have learned to make corsets. I have also learned to make bras and knickers and now when I make an outfit for a special occasion I make the bra and knickers to match!
Over the last couple of years I have been teaching people to sew on a one to one basis and loved it so much, that last year, I took a teaching qualification. Now I can bring my passion to more people and I am looking forward to teaching lots of people how to sew.
